A lifted truck is more than just a vehicle — it's a statement. Whether you're building for off-road performance or pure street presence, the right combination of lift kit, wheels, and tires makes all the difference. Here's how to do it right.
Step 1: Choose Your Lift Height
Lift kits typically range from 2" to 6" or more. A 2-3" lift is great for fitting larger tires without major modifications. A 4-6" lift opens up room for 35"+ tires and more aggressive wheel fitments with negative offset.
Step 2: Select the Right Wheel Size
For lifted trucks, 17" to 20" wheels are the sweet spot. Larger wheels look great but require lower-profile tires. For serious off-roading, 17" wheels with taller tires give you more sidewall flex for better traction on rocks and uneven terrain.
Step 3: Pick Your Offset
Lifted trucks typically run negative offset wheels (e.g., -12mm to -44mm) to push the wheels outward and fill the fender wells. This gives that wide, aggressive stance that lifted trucks are known for.
Step 4: Choose Your Tires
Match your tires to your use case. All-terrain (AT) tires are great for mixed use. Mud-terrain (MT) tires offer maximum off-road grip but are louder on the highway. Make sure your tire diameter matches your lift height to avoid rubbing.
Step 5: Don't Forget the Details
Consider wheel spacers, extended lug nuts, and a TPMS reset after your build. Also check your speedometer calibration after changing tire size.
