Decoding Wheel Size
When you see a wheel listed as "20x10", what does that actually mean? Understanding wheel sizing is essential to making the right purchase. Let's break it down.
Wheel Diameter
The first number (e.g., 20) is the wheel diameter in inches. This is the distance across the face of the wheel from one edge to the other. Common sizes range from 15" to 24" for passenger vehicles and trucks.
Wheel Width
The second number (e.g., 10) is the wheel width in inches. This is the distance between the inner and outer bead seats. A wider wheel can accommodate wider tires for better grip and a more aggressive stance.
How Size Affects Performance
- Larger diameter: Better handling and braking, but can reduce ride comfort
- Wider wheel: More grip and stability, but adds weight

Plus Sizing
"Plus sizing" means going up in wheel diameter while reducing tire sidewall height to maintain the same overall diameter. For example, going from 17" to 18" wheels. This improves handling but can make the ride stiffer.
